The 19th edition of the Solheim Cup is set to begin in 150 days and will be contested at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainsville, Va., from September 13-15 this year. The United States will be looking to win its first Cup since 2017 after tying with Europe at Finca Cortesin in Andalucia, Spain last September, and Europe will be working to retain the Cup for a fourth consecutive year, something that has never been done in Solheim Cup history.
The 2024 LPGA Tour season has kicked into high gear, and there’s been plenty of movement in both the U.S. and European Solheim Cup Team standings as players have played their way into the mix and fallen out of the conversation in recent months.
In the last 50 days, Alison Lee and Sarah Schmelzel have risen to the occasion, vaulting from ninth and 15th in the standings on February 26, respectively, to seventh and ninth as of April 15. Additionally, current Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings No. 1 Nelly Korda now leads the standings after winning in her last four starts on the LPGA Tour, and Blue Bay LPGA winner Bailey Tardy has moved into the 14th spot after becoming a Rolex First-Time Winner in the People’s Republic of China.
The final U.S. Team will be comprised of the top seven players in the point standings, the top two players in the Rolex Rankings not already qualified and three captain’s picks to be chosen by Captain Stacy Lewis. As of the April 15 Rolex Rankings, Rose Zhang (No. 21) and Lexi Thompson (No. 35) will fill the two spots that are based on world ranking position.
