With only 100 days until the start of The Solheim Cup, European Team Captain Carin Koch has highlighted the key role Abacus Sportswear’s high-performance garments will play in ensuring the team performs at the highest level during the event.
Having dressed the European team at the previous four Solheim Cup events, Abacus Sportswear, the team’s Official Apparel Supplier and pioneer of high-performance stretch waterproof fabrics, will provide 1,608 garments for Europe’s team of 12 players, captain, vice-captains, caddies, team assistants, officials and guests.
“Since the very beginning, Abacus Sportswear has not just been a supplier, providing outfits for the players, caddies and backroom staff, it has been a valuable part of my team I have relied on in preparation for The Solheim Cup,” commented Carin Koch.
“The knowledge the company has when it comes to developing team wardrobes, along with the high level of service it continuously provides, helps ensure the players will feel their best when on the course and I know from my own experience that when you feel good, you play your best golf.”
Each of the players will be provided with high-performance garments, including Abacus Sportswear’s new Performance StretchLite™ jacket, which makes its first appearance at The 2015 Solheim Cup. The garment is the lightest, most breathable waterproof the company has produced and features a membrane technology enabling it to be worn close to the skin without a separate lining. This ensures it is extra light, thin and easy to wear, while its capacity to stretch to more than twice its original size enables complete freedom of movement on the course.
In addition, the wardrobe will also include base layers, polo shirts, pullovers, jackets, vests, trousers, skorts, shorts, scarfs to provide protection against any changeable weather conditions.
Commenting on dressing the European team at the biggest event in women’s golf, Chris Mattsson, Head Designer at Abacus Sportswear, said: “The experience we have when it comes to working with many of the game’s best golfers ensures we understand their specific clothing requirements. This experience enables us to continuously produce garments which provide players with a freedom to play their best golf when on the course.”
Abacus Sportswear will measure prospective European Solheim Cup team members during a special fitting session prior to The Women’s British Open in Turnberry, Scotland, on July 28, with the final European team announced later in the summer.
A selection of abacus® garments including rain jackets, windwear and moisture wicking Drycool® polo shirts embossed with The Solheim Cup logo are available to purchase from the Official Solheim Cup online store www.solheimcupshop.com. Outfits will also be on sale at the Merchandise Shop at St. Leon-Rot Golf Club from September 18-20, 2015.

About The Solheim Cup
The Solheim Cup combines the tradition and prestige of the game of golf with passion for one’s country. This biennial, trans-Atlantic team match-play competition features the best U.S.-born players from the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour and the best European members from the Ladies European Tour (LET). The Solheim Cup is named in honor of Karsten Solheim, the founder of Karsten Manufacturing Corporation, which makes PING golf equipment. In 1990, the Solheim family, in conjunction with the LPGA and the LET, developed the concept and became the sponsor for The Solheim Cup, professional golf’s international match-play competition for women. Held every two years, the event has grown into the most prestigious international women’s professional golf team event. The Solheim Cup is the most highly coveted trophy in women’s professional golf team competition; some of the most memorable moments in women’s golf have happened during Solheim Cups, and berths on the U.S. and European teams are highly coveted by players from both organisations. The 2015 Solheim Cup will take place at Golf Course St. Leon-Rot in Germany. The European Team enters the competition holding the Cup and will need 14 points to retain it, with the U.S. Team needing 14½ points to regain the coveted Waterford Crystal prize. The U.S. squad holds an 8-5 lead in the series, which began in 1990. In addition to founding sponsor PING, Global Partners of The Solheim Cup include Rolex, SAP and Allianz.
