First round under way at Qatar Ladies Open

The first round of the inaugural Qatar Ladies Open is under way in fair conditions at Doha Golf Club. Lydia Hall of Wales (above) and Noora Tamminen from Finland (below) set the target with a pair of five-under-par 67s.

This is the penultimate stroke play event of 2016 on the LET and there is plenty on the line for the competitors going into an action-packed end-of-season.

The recent Hero Women’s Indian Open champion Aditi Ashok will be jostling for the Rookie of the Year Award with the Lalla Meryem Cup victor Nuria Iturrios. There are also several recent champions looking to follow Beth Allen by winning multiple trophies this season, including Isabelle Boineau, Nanna Koerstz Madsen and Anne Van Dam.

Swedish star Anna Nordqvist has joined the field, having flown in on the eve of the tournament and top 10 finishes will be vital for the European players as the 2017 Solheim Cup approaches.

There are three tournaments still to be played in 2016 in total, with the Qatar Ladies Open preceding The Queens presented by Kowa, which is a team match play event taking place between four of the world’s leading women’s golf tours in Japan and then the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters.

It’s going to be an exciting climax to the year, starting in Qatar!
