Connie Chen is just ace in Doha

Connie Chen used her 7-iron to make a hole-in-one at the 158-yard par-3 13th during the first round of the Qatar Ladies Open at Doha Golf Club.

It was her third ace in six years of competitive play on the LET, but her fourth in total as she previously recorded one during a practise round for the Deloitte Ladies Open.

The 24-year-old South African made a pair of aces during competition in Spain and Dubai, where she won a Mercedes Benz in 2013 after making a one on the iconic 15th hole of the Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club.

After finishing her first round at the Qatar Ladies Open, she said: “It was the perfect shot with the wind coming off the right and I was playing for a draw and it came in perfectly,” adding that Sophie Walker was her lucky charm.

“It was my second hole-in-one playing with Sophie as we were also paired together when I won a Mercedes in Dubai. Georgia Hall also played with her when she won her Mercedes there with a hole-in-one too.”

After signing for an opening round of one-under-par 71 to sit in a tie for 22nd position, Chen said: “Two eagles on my card really helped my score today, because I also had one on the 10th, which is a par 5.”
