Isabelle Boineau has a rare opportunity to compete in a Major on home soil this week in the Evian Championship in Evian-les-Bains, France.
The 27-year-old from Marseille qualified for the tournament by winning the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open in July and is making her event debut in the event at Evian Resort Golf Club.
“I’m really excited because it’s the biggest tournament I’ve played in – and a Major – in France!” said Boineau, who is ranked third on the LET Order of Merit. “It’s very nice to be able to play with the French public. I think it’s going to be fun and I’m really looking forward to teeing off tomorrow morning.”
Boineau is full of confidence after her win and happy to be joined in her first and second round group by one of her best friends, Patricia Sanz, who will be caddying for the American Cydney Clanton.
She added: “I’m glad because Alexi (Antioco) is on the bag and my friend Patti is caddying in the same group so it’s going to be fun. I played the course a couple of times this year for the Jabra Ladies Open, which is a French tournament. I also played it for the qualifier last year at a different time of year. It’s way warmer now. I thought it would be easier but when I arrived here I played a practise round and the rough was quite tough. I think it’s better to play your tee shots a bit shorter and hit the fairways rather than try to go too long and find the rough, because you can’t easily hit the greens from the rough. You have to be very strategic this week. It’s all about putting and getting the ball into play.”
Boineau will have the honour of hitting the first tee shot from tee number one at 7.45am on Thursday and as well as Clanton, is grouped with the South Korean Min Seo Kwak.
