Leading Rookie Nuria Iturrios Makes Evian Debut

The Ladies European Tour’s leading rookie Nuria Iturrios is thrilled to be making her debut appearance in The Evian Championship this week, which is the fifth and final Major of 2016.

Iturrios earned her place with a maiden victory at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco in May, where she fired a final round 65 in torrential rain in only her second start as a professional after ending T24 in New Zealand.

Since her win, she has finished T22 at the Tipsport Golf Masters in Pilsen, but missed the cut at the Ricoh Women’s British Open and ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters.

She has been leading the LET Rookie standings all season and with earnings of €73,136.05 after five tournaments played, is currently €21,584 ahead of second placed Angel Yin of the United States, followed by Indian Aditi Ashok in third. Iturrios is also ninth on the Order of Merit, with the chance to make a big climb this week.

When asked about her impressions of The Evian Championship so far, she replied: “I think it’s the best experience I’ve ever had. I want to enjoy it, see the best players in the world, and ensure that I play well.”

The 20-year-old from Majorca added: “I think that your driver has to be working well but the most difficult aspect are the greens. I have practised a lot and am improving my golf every day.”

She added that she will not feel overwhelmed as she has a large team with her including her coach Jose Luis Chiqui acting as her caddie.
