The fourth and final round of the Ladies European Tour’s showcase event, the ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters, is under way at Golf Club Hubbelrath in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Weather conditions are slightly cooler than for the third round, with a thin layer of cloud and very light winds. It’s still a warm and pleasant day however and temperatures are expected to rise to 26C by 3pm locally.
Home town heroine Sandra Gal is playing in the last group today with the overnight co-leaders Lee-Anne Pace and Belen Mozo. It’s not often that the Ladies European Tour players get to play in a tournament on their own golf course, let alone at a venue where they have been a three-time club champion, so Gal will have the benefit of home advantage and a vociferous gallery cheering her on.
Although Gal won the 2011 Kia Classic on the LPGA and has represented Europe twice in The Solheim Cup, in 2011 and 2015, she is yet to win a title on the Ladies European Tour and will be keen to amass more silverware after her friend and fellow club member Caroline Masson won the Manulife LPGA Classic last Sunday in Canada.
There is a mixture of youth and experience on the leader board and several players are in the hunt for their maiden LET title. They include the 18-year-old Olympian Aditi Ashok from India, the 17-year-old Californian Angel Yin, England’s Georgia Hall, Finnish Olympian Ursula Wikstrom, American Katie Burnett and fiery Spaniard Mozo.
Multiple LET champions Marianne Skarpnord, In-Kyung Kim and Pace are all very much in the mix along with Camilla Lennarth and the defending champion Beth Allen, who are both looking for a second LET title.
