Davies posts bogey-free 67 at GC Hubbelrath

Dame Laura Davies made a massive move up the leader board in the ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters with a bogey-free third round of five-under-par 67 at Golf Club Hubbelrath in Düsseldorf on Saturday morning.

Birdies on the second, seventh, 12th, 14th and 17th saw her climb up to one-under-par for the tournament and in touch with the leaders with her best round since a final day 67 in the 2015 ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters at Buckinghamshire Golf Club in England.

After exiting the recording tent with a big smile on her face, she said that 29 putts, instead of 33 and 34 the previous two days, made all the difference.

She said: “I missed a couple of greens early but got up and down which steadied the ship. Then I started playing well, hit a lot of greens and made some nice putts. It was nice, I had 29 and played solid golf. No bogeys around a golf course as tough as this, mentally, physically and whatever else: for me, that’s a victory today, whatever happens tomorrow.”

Davies enjoys playing in Germany, where she won the 1992 European Ladies’ Open at Golf Club Beuerberg and the 2010 Unicredit Ladies German Open presented by Audi at Golf Club Gut Hausern.
