ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
1. General
- The Qualifying School will form a key part of Tour policy for determining the starting field for tournaments.
- The purpose of the Qualifying School will be to offer membership of the Ladies European Tour in Category 7 or Category 10. Essentially the higher you finish the more opportunities you will get to play on Tour. Players finishing in the top 30 may not play every event but the aim of the School is to maximise the opportunity to play for the top 30 card holders.
- Players making the 54 hole cut at the School but finishing outside the top 30 will be offered membership in Category 10. Opportunities to play will be restricted although past experience suggests such players will still have the chance to participate in some events. Again for Category 10 Members the principle of the higher you finish the more you will play should hold true. Members in this category will be re-ranked twice during the season.
- Players who fail to make the 54 hole cut at the School may still join the Tour as Category 12 Members (Career Money). Opportunities to play will be very limited.
2. Eligibility for Entry
Applicants must:
- Be female and have been female at birth
- Be at least 18 years of age (as at 31/12/2002)
- Submit the completed entry form for the Qualifying School, together with the appropriate payment
Note: An Amateur who intends filing an application to the Qualifying School must have a handicap of 1 or less and must submit the relevant Handicap Certificate with her Entry Form (see note 4 below regarding Amateur Status)
3. Conditions of Play
The Qualifying School shall be played over 72 holes (4 rounds) Stroke Play. There will be a cut after 36 holes to the leading 90 players and those tied for 90th place. A 2nd cut will then be made after 54 holes to the leading 50 players and those tied for 50th place, who will play the final round. At the conclusion of 72 holes, all players will be ranked according to score. All tied scores will be ranked by card play-off as follows: the best last 54, 36, 18, 9, 6, 3 and last hole, then matchplay from the first hole if required. Note: Exemption Category 7 will include the players tied for places including 30th position at the Qualifying School.
* amended conditions are shown in bold.
4. Amateur Status
We can confirm that the R&A’s General Committee have revised Rule 2-3 (Professionalism: Professional Tournament Players), with effect from 1st September 2002, as follows:
2-3. Professional Tournament Players An Amateur golfer must not hold or retain membership of a Professional Tour.
Note: If an Amateur must compete in one or more qualifying competitions in order to be eligible for membership of a Professional Tour, he may enter and play in such qualifying competitions without forfeiting his Amateur Status, provided, in advance of play and in writing, he waives his right to any prize money in the competition.
* the changes to the rule are shown in italics
The application of this new rule means that an amateur golfer may apply and compete in the Tour’s Qualifying School without losing her amateur status. She may then choose to join the Tour or continue as an amateur depending upon her results at the Qualifying School.
This amendment will allow any participant in the Women’s World Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy to meet the deadline for entries for the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School without affecting her amateur status.
