In-form Connie Chen says she has never felt more optimistic going into a tournament as she prepares for the Cell C SA Women’s Open at San Lameer Country Club from 16-18 October.
Chen opened the door to a new chapter in her short career when she closed out the Tenerife Open de España Femenino with a maiden pro victory at Golf Costa Adeje in the Canary Islands three weeks ago.
The 21-year-old Gauteng professional cruised to a two stroke victory over local favourite Carlota Ciganda from mainland Spain.
As usual, Chen had her father, Hong, on the bag. The pair had a heart-to-heart before the start of the event and agreed to change gears. After their success, they celebrated with a beer in Gatwick airport, before heading to Imperial Springs Resort in Guangdong, China, where Connie is now based.
“Winning in Tenerife has given me a huge boost in confidence and I am very positive for the Cell C SA Women’s Open in San Lameer,” said Connie. “I have not played San Lameer but I have heard very good things about the course.”
After winning a €52,500 first prize in Tenerife, Connie is now 25th on the Ladies European Tour’s ISPS HANDA Order of Merit and in sizzling form ahead of the Cell C South African Women’s Open.
As for her plan, she added: “I’m just going to take it easy and play my own game.”
The fourth year Ladies European Tour member is in the form of her life and will fancy her chances of winning the second title of her short professional career.
