Those watching Florentyna Parker at the Evian Championship may need to do a double take when they see a familiar face carrying her golf bag.
Two-time Ladies European Tour winner Anne-Lise Caudal from France, who finished sixth in Scotland a fortnight ago, offered to caddie for Parker after her friend secured her place in the Evian Championship with her win at the Italian Open in June. Not only does Caudal know the venue, having previously played in the Evian Masters, but she is proving helpful as a translator.
“A few weeks ago when I won in Italy she asked me if I had a caddie for Evian and when I said no she said ‘I’ll do it.’ I said perfect. It’s very good because we hit similar distances so that’s very helpful for me if I’m in between clubs. We are friends and she has played here before the change,” said Parker, who took the Helsingborg Open off to prepare for the tournament.
“I feel like I’m playing well. You never know when the tournament comes but I hope to do well and represent the Ladies European Tour,” continued Parker. “The greens are fine, they’re not too quick and there are so many slopes that I don’t think they can be. I think they are running about 11 or 11.5 on the stimp meter, so that’s fine and they are in very good condition so that’s really nice.
“Your short game needs to be good for when you miss the greens and also putting, because if you’re on the wrong tier, the person who doesn’t have a three-putt this week will probably win because even if you’re on the green, but you have a huge sloping putt, they’re not easy. If you putt and chip well, you’re going to miss greens and you’re going to hit it to the wrong part of the green at some stage, so that will be key.”
