Suzann Pettersen heads back to the site of her second major championship this week as defending champion and has been playing very solid golf as of late. Pettersen, ranked No. 4 in the Rolex Rankings, has recorded five top-10 finishes in her last six starts but has struggled closing out tournaments. The Norwegian was tied for the lead after three rounds in her last event at the Portland Classic and shot a 76 on Sunday to finish five shots out of a playoff. At the Tour’s last major, the Wegmans LPGA Championship, Pettersen was just one shot off the lead heading into Sunday but shot a 76 in the final round to finish six shots out of a playoff. The 20-time tournament winner hasn’t shown off her killer instincts in majors yet this season. After missing the Kraft Nabisco Championship in April due to a back injury, Pettersen missed the cut at the U.S. Women’s Open (78-74), stumbled in the final round of the RICOH Women’s British Open with a closing 75 to finish runner-up and ended in a tie for sixth at Wegmans. Her 75.5 scoring average in her last two final rounds at majors will be plenty of motivation for Pettersen to finish strong this week. She’s fresh off a week spent in Norway where she hosted her third-annual Suzann Pro Challenge which benefits the charitable organisation Right to Play.
