The 2013 Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open presented by EventScotland was launched today in Edinburgh, with top Scottish golfers Catriona Matthew and Carly Booth in attendance for the announcement that tournament sponsor, Aberdeen Asset Management, is extending its support for the event for a further two years.

Aberdeen has sponsored the event since 2008 and this will be its fourth consecutive year at Archerfield Links, East Lothian. The sponsorship extension takes Aberdeen through to the end of 2014. This year’s tournament will take place over three days from Friday 30 August – Sunday 1 September, as it returns to its usual slot on the Ladies European Tour (LET) late summer calendar.

Catriona Matthew said:It is fantastic news that Aberdeen Asset Management is committing to support the tournament for a further two years, no company is doing more for Scottish golf than them at the moment. The Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open has a unique format which is enjoyed by the professionals and amateurs alike and it has a great atmosphere. Playing in the tournament is always one of the highlights of my year as it’s so close to my home and means that I can spend quality time with my family as well as play golf with lots of supporters!

The event’s unique three day Pro-Am format will see the limited field of 70 professional golfers playing alongside an amateur field of 70, which will include a number of celebrity faces. The tournament traditionally attracts some of the best female golfers on the Tour and this year will be no different, with the field including last year’s Champion, Carly Booth.

Carly Booth said:It’s just over a year since I achieved my maiden LET win at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open which was really special as it was in my home country. The win gave me the confidence to play well for the rest of the year and helped boost my confidence. I love playing the course at Archerfield and having the support of the home crowd and that of my friends and family, and I’m really looking forward to defending my title at the tournament at the end of August. With Catriona winning the tournament in 2011 and me winning it last year, we’re on for a hat-trick of Scottish Champions!

Martin Gilbert, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Asset Management, said:As proud supporters of Scottish golf from grassroots through to elite level, we are delighted to announce the extension of our title sponsorship of the Ladies Scottish Open for a further two years. The event gives Scotland the opportunity to showcase one of its beautiful courses and for us to shine a light onto some of the best golfers on the Ladies European Tour. We’re thrilled to continue our relationship with the tournament as part of our on-going commitment to the game.”

Paul Bush, Chief Operating Officer of EventScotland, added: “The Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open is part of a world-class portfolio of golf events held in Scotland, the Home of Golf, every year and helps to showcase the wonderful talent we have in this country. We are delighted that Aberdeen Asset Management has continued its commitment for another two years and we are proud to support the event alongside them.”
