Argentina’s Magdalena Simmermacher sits in a share of second place on the leaderboard at the 36-hole mark of the 2026 Hero Women’s Indian open.
Simmermacher opened with a 68 (-4) on the first day at the testing DLF Golf & Country Club, before following it up with a 72 (E) on day two in India.
During the second day of action, the Argentinian made a double bogey at the fourth hole but also made birdies on the sixth, 12th and 15th holes, and a bogey on 14 to have a total of four-under-par.
“The double is not that I played bad, I just hit one bad shot just inside the tree, so I had to declare an unplayable and play it backwards, so then I was already laying up with my fourth shot which was not great,” said Simmermacher.
“After that, I was very consistent the whole round. I hit really good shots and made good birdies. The bogey on 14 was a three-putt, I really played very well today as well.
“Yesterday I had a lot of messages about the round because I haven’t played this good in a while. I knew that once I got on the course, I would be comfortable because I’m hitting the ball good.
“It’s just your head, you need to keep calm. I rested; I’m staying with Daniela [Darquea]. I had a good time and prepared for today. I actually slept really good. It’s consistent play, step-by-step, shot-by-shot.”
Simmermacher has had her struggles with the game in recent years, having recorded runner-up finishes on the Ladies European Tour (LET) in her first three years on Tour. She headed to the LPGA Tour in 2023 but lost a lot of confidence in her game and has to rebuild mentally and technically.
The Olympian has been working with her caddie Mossy Prendiville for the past two months, and she believes he has helped her improve her confidence and mindset.

She explained: “I have a really good relationship with my caddie now, he’s been caddying for me for two months and we’re getting to know each other very well in what do I need. I practice a lot, but he tries to make do what I need to do instead of doing a lot.
“We’re getting along well and he gives me good numbers. Today, we did well and changed clubs and I thought you were smart there. I’m trying to stay in the moment, stay patient and all the hard work is paying. It’s all in my mind what is preventing me from shooting very low scores. I’m playing well, hitting the ball good, putting good, chipping good.
“It’s not that I changed something, it is the belief in myself. I think sometimes when you don’t have good rounds, you start believing you’re not good enough, so it’s let this part aside. From two tournaments ago, we decided to do shot by shot. I’ve been doing good with that.
“Mentally, I played quite good but little silly mistakes cost me a lot. I have been trying to prevent doubles and stay consistent and now I think this week, I’m hitting the ball a little bit better. I did find something in my swing, but it’s the same as always, it’s just keep working on what makes me stop thinking about technique and what I like to do to hit the ball better, to just have one miss instead of both misses. I have been working with my coach on some start lines.
“The key has been my caddie to have someone I trust on my bag and I told him you’re giving me this [freedom] to enjoy myself on the course again, before it would be about everything else and practicing, but when the tournament came, I was very anxious. It’s about enjoying and I told him when you’re around, you make it easier for me to be on the course and stay present. I wasn’t enjoying it that much on the course [before].”
