MAJOR WINNER HALL CONTINUES COMEBACK AFTER BIRTH OF BABY BOY

With a return to Royal Lytham & St Annes on the horizon, Georgia Hall continued her comeback trail on the Ladies European Tour (LET) this week teeing up in just her third event since becoming a mother.

Hall gave birth to a baby boy, Conor, back in February, and has been using the European stretch on the LET to get match fit again ahead of the AIG Women’s Open later this month – the event she won back in 2017 at the track in Lancashire.

The Englishwoman made her return to action at the Jabra Ladies Open de France in May making the cut before finishing T28. Three weeks later Hall was teeing up again at the Dutch Ladies Open where she would end the week T44.

This week, Hall has been competing in Belgium for the very first time at the Hulencourt Women’s Open. After opening with a round of 74 (+2), the Solheim Cup rekindled her sharpness on Friday and Saturday firing cards of 72-71 to move into the top-20 ahead of the final round at Hulencourt Golf Club.

“My short game is much more improved now,” Hall said. “I found out after round one that my ball position was two positions back than where it should have been. That was a silly error on my part so I changed that and now have been playing a lot better. I’m striking it well but just need to straighten up my irons. This week is all about improving my match fitness and my game.

“I’m improving every week and my body is getting fitter which is the most important thing. This week has been a massive improvement. I’ve been working out throughout the week which is great as before I was far too tired to even go to the gym. I feel like another couple of weeks and I will be nearly back to full fitness which is perfect timing [for the AIG Women’s Open].”

Hall has also been joined by her fiancee, former DP World Tour player Paul Dunne, and baby Conor in Belgium. Another Solheim Cup winner, Bronte Law, also has her wife and baby, Hugo, out with her this week making it a special week for both parties.

“They [Paul and Conor] haven’t come to the course yet,” Hall said. “They’re back in the hotel and but it’s really nice that they’re here and can help out. I saw Bronte, her other half and their baby too. We had a little chat. He [Hugo] is really cute. He’s a few months older than Conor but it’s nice to get some advice on they’re finding the weaning process.”

In rounds one and two, Hall tee’d up alongside fellow LET Order of Merit winner Shannon Tan. The Singaporean has long idolised the Englishwoman ever since her victory at the AIG Women’s Open back in 2017.

“She’s great and so lovely,” Hall said. “I’ve played with her quite a few times now and she’s such a great player. It’s really nice to share the fairways with her.”

Following the conclusion of the Hulencourt Women’s Open, Hall will return home to work on her fitness and game ahead of a busy stretch of events on both the LET and LPGA.

“After this I’ll have a little break and the play the Scottish Open, AIG Women’s Open and PIF London Championship,” the 30-year-old said. “That will be my first run of events in a row. Two weeks off after this will be great and I can get the energy back and work on my game. I’m really aiming to do well in this next run of events. I’ll see my coaches and have some rest time. I’ll need to get as fit as possible heading into the Scottish Open.”
