Ginger Delacretaz is making history this week becoming the first Mauritian to ever tee it up on the Ladies European Tour (LET).
The 35-year-old received a sponsor invite to the MCB Ladies Classic – Mauritius which is taking place on the stunning Legend Course at the Constance Belle Mare Plage from May 1-3.
Delacretaz is the only Mauritian woman with a PGA qualification and began playing golf at the age of 17.
She earned her PGA qualification in South Africa and spent a year competing as an amateur on the circuit.
After teaching at Mont Choisy Le Golf in Mauritius, Delacretaz moved to Dubai and spent four years at the Tommy Fleetwood Academy.
The Mauritian is excited to get the week underway, especially after having a baby nine months ago, and hopes to be a source of inspiration for youngsters on the island.
“I am immensely proud of Mauritius, of how they managed to have such champions be here on the small island,” she said. “It’s a huge honour to be able to be part of this.
“I really hope my presence here will be an inspiration for the youngsters here. To be honest, to be next to those great athletes is overwhelming, but I’m really enjoying it so much and I really hope I can get to learn a bit more.
“I think the pride started way earlier than my tee time. Honestly, I’m going to take it one minute at a time, really enjoying it, and I think the best is yet to come. Everything I’ve had since getting an invite, the support from everyone, all the sponsors and everything, it’s just the tee time now. Let’s go.”
