Alexandra Försterling fired the low round of the day at the Australian WPGA Championship to move into third place on the leaderboard.
The German Star opened with a colourful 69 (-2) on the first day of action before producing a flawless 66 (-5) during day two on the Gold Coast.
Försterling made an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole as well as birdies on the seventh, 15th and 18th holes to have a total of seven-under-par.
The four-time LET winner now sits three shots behind home favourite Hannah Green, who won last week’s Women’s Australian Open, at the midway mark of the competition.
“I’m really happy,” she said. “I actually sprained my neck yesterday right before the round and I shot two-under which I was very surprised and happy about.
“Today, it’s a lot better and now I could finally play like normal. I saw the physio a lot and she saved me. On the eagles, I think I’m getting it really close and then make the putts or I somehow hole a long putt always on the par-5s.
“The course is pretty similar to the States. I’m honestly happy that I have some experience on these types of greens and it helps me to read the putts a bit better and also on the long shots. That really helps.”
During 2025, Försterling dealt with her fair share of injuries but she’s glad to see the hard work she put in during the winter break is paying off.
She explained: “I’m super happy that the hard work in the winter really paid off. We worked really hard on the shape of the body that I’m more pain-free and especially on the swing.
“We spent a lot of hours hitting a lot of balls. I’m really happy to see that it paid off and I feel more consistent and more comfortable over the ball. I feel like I how I felt a couple of years ago.”
The 26-year-old is staying with compatriot and fellow LET winner Patricia Schmidt this week and has been impressed by her cooking skills.
She added: “It’s really fun. Patricia’s cooking is really good! I always try to ask her if there’s anything I can do to help and she says no. Her cooking is excellent and it’s really nice to stay with Patricia and I’m happy that she’s adopted me.
“I will probably see the physio again. I will rest up, it’s the fourth week in a row so it’s been a long week. I’m going to try and rest the body, see the physio and have a nice meal with Patricia.
“I just want to keep it going like I did today, try to trust my game at the moment, trust my long game. I would say that’s my strength at the moment and really just try to have fun and stay in the moment and enjoy every bit of it.”
