Canada’s Anna Huang fired a round of 64 (-7) to climb to the top of the leaderboard on day two of the 2025 Lacoste Ladies Open de France.
The 16-year-old, who began the day in T8, started with back-to-back birdies on the first and second before adding another birdie on the sixth.
Huang made her only bogey of the day on the seventh before rolling in birdies on nine, 12, 13, 15 and 17 to seal a round of seven-under.
The teenager, who secured a wire-to-wire victory at last week’s La Sella Open, sits at the top of the leaderboard on 10-under-par.
“Today was a really solid day, I was hitting it really well and I made a lot of putts on the back nine, so that helped,” said the LET rookie. “My driver wasn’t as great today, I found myself in the trees a couple of times, but I was able to bounce back.
“With the calm weather this morning, I was definitely more aggressive with the pins. It was still a bit chilly out there but it’s always good when it’s calm.
“I have been really confident with my game recently and I’m really happy with where everything is at. The win has changed my mindset a lot. Winning by seven was crazy, so this week I was definitely a lot more confident in myself and chasing the leaderboard.
“France has been fun, this place is really nice. Tomorrow, I will have the same mindset as always. I will stay in the present and just focus on myself and hopefully, I don’t look at the leaderboard too many times.”
Three players are in a share of second place with Germany’s Helen Briem, Italy’s Alessia Nobilio and South Africa’s Casandra Alexander all on nine-under-par at Golf Barrière in Deauville.
LET winner Briem followed up an opening 66 (-5) with a 67 (-4) on day two which included two bogeys and six birdies.
“It’s a huge step forward for me to have two rounds under-par in a row,” said Briem. “That’s great and I’m in a good position for tomorrow and we will see what happens.
“I have been hitting more greens or the amount that I usually hit, so I’ve had lots of birdie opportunities. It’s back to normality kind of in my game, I’m very happy with that.
“I will try to get that win. It’s now a year without a win from La Sella Open last year to last week. We will see. I will give it everything tomorrow and I hope it’s my time.”
Nobilio, who led after the first round, rolled in her first birdie of the day on the 10th before adding another on the 18th hole.
The Italian rookie did make bogeys on the first and fourth holes but bounced back immediately with birdies on five, six and nine for her round of 68 (-3).
“I had another pretty steady round today; I only made a couple of bogeys on the front nine,” said Nobilio. “I was able to get those shots back right away, I’m very happy with how I handled it.
“I was a little nervous this morning on 10, which was my first hole, but I managed it very well. My caddie helped me a lot. I had a couple of good iron shots, especially on six where I almost holed it. I made a few good putts as well.
“I am super excited for tomorrow. I can’t wait to tee it up. I will just do my best. We all know golf is tough, but I will just go there and try to enjoy it as much as I can. I need to rest this afternoon and definitely watch the Ryder Cup later.”
South Africa’s Alexander, who won the 2025 Tipsport Czech Ladies Open, fired a round of 65 (-6) which included four birdies in a row from holes two to six.
“Day one was a bit slow, I made a couple of mistakes,” said Alexander. “Early on I played well and then I finished not so great. Today was better, I tried keeping it a little tidier. A bit of a slow back nine, but you can’t complain when you’re six-under.
“My putting was a little better today, I made a couple of hallelujah putts which helped, and I think the tee shots were a little better. I’m struggling a little with my driver, I’m hitting it a bit like a grandma but it’s going straight, so it will work for now. It was just a couple more putts today that sealed the deal.”
Wales’ Lydia Hall and France’s Camille Chevalier are T5 on eight-under-par with Czechia’s Klara Davidson Spilkova one shot further back in outright seventh place after firing a bogey-free 64 (-7) on day two.
“It was just very solid and a pretty consistent round, which I really liked, and I just made some putts,” said the Czech star. “I was very present and just trying to stay a little bit more aggressive on the back nine because I was playing very good on the front nine and sometimes, I get defensive.
“I kept that positive mindset. The birdie putts were a mixture of mid-range putts and shorter putts. The greens are tricky here, there’s a lot of slopes and you have to hit good irons as well, otherwise you can get into trouble.”
Five players are in a share of eighth place with Denmark’s Smilla Tarning Soenderby, France’s Nastasia Nadaud, Germany’s Alexandra Försterling, Japan’s Ayako Uehara and Australia’s Kirsten Rudgeley all on six-under-par.
The cut fell at +1 with 69 players making it through to the final day of action. Round three will begin at 9.35 am (local time) with the leaders teeing off at 11.36 am (local time) in France.
