PING JUNIOR SOLHEIM CUP STARS IN ACTION IN SWEDEN

As Sweden continues to excel as an assembly line for top female golfers, three stars of the future – all of whom competed at the PING Junior Solheim Cup – will tee up at this week’s Hills Open on the Ladies European Tour (LET).

Meja Ortengren, Nora Sundberg, and Havanna Torstensson are three of 19 Swedes teeing up in Gothenburg. The trio of amateurs all represented Europe in the precursor to the Solheim Cup – a competition which continues to prove its value as a gateway to the main stage – and will be looking to make an impact on home soil as the LET stops at Hills Golf Club.

Both Ortengren and Sundberg are two time winners of the PJSC having lifted the prestigious cup in 2021 and 2023. Having also competing alongside one another for the Swedish National Team, the duo now both study at Stanford University together where they are sophomores at the famous college.

Torstensson meanwhile, a is couple of years younger than her compatriots at just 17-years-old. She played at last year’s PING Junior Solheim Cup where the US won the cup back in Washington D.C. Winner of the Girls’ Amateur Championship in 2024, the young Swede will be enrol at Wake Forest University next year, following in the footsteps of Mimi Rhodes and Lauren Walsh.

This will be Torstensson’s second taste of LET action after the rising star tee’d up at the 2022 Skafto Open. Just 14-years-old at the time, Torstensson had a week to remember making the cut to eventually finish T26.

“For my age I did so well last time!” Torstensson remembers. “It makes me more confident than the last time as I have a little bit more experience now. I’ll still be nervous but I’m excited for tomorrow. It’s really cool to be here and I hope to be at the same level as the LET players.”

Encouragingly for the trio, an abundance of Swedish stars who competed at the PING Junior Solheim Cup have gone on to find success on both the LET and LPGA Tour. This includes the likes of Linn Grant, Maja Stark, Caroline Hedwall, and current Solheim Cup captain, Anna Nordqvist.

“It was so nice to have played in the PING Junior Solheim Cup,” Torstensson. “You look at the players who played in it and then see how big they are now, it’s really cool. It was a great week, it’s nice to compete alongside Europeans because before that I had only ever competed against them.”

Elsewhere, in this week’s field at the Hills Open, a total of 14 PJSC alumni will be taking to the fairways in Sweden. This group consists of our trio of amateurs, plus Rhodes, Alessandra Fanali, Klara Davidson Spilkova, Pia Babnik, Alessia Nobilio, Olivia Mehaffey, Harang Lee, Luna Sobron Galmes, Marianne Skarpnord, Maris Hernandez and Leonie Harm.

Next year the PJSC heads to Bernandus Golf Club in the Netherlands. In a historic first, this is the same course where the Solheim Cup will be staged later that week. Dutch LET star will captain the European side with the competition taking place September 7-8 2026.

The European team will be made up of the leading six players from the PING Junior Solheim Cup Rankings – who will earn automatic selection – and six captain’s picks by captain van Dam.
