Sweden’s Moa Folke is preparing for a special week as she tees it up on home soil at the Hills Open.
The Swede enters with strong momentum, following an impressive show at the PIF London Championship, where he secured a T7 finish in the team event and T11 individually.
“I had so much fun in London and of course, playing well”, said Folke. “It always makes it a little bit better. I think I’ve been playing well for a while, but some weeks it just comes together. I also liked the course a lot at Centurion.
“The last two days I putted well which I was happy about. With putting it can sometimes vary a lot but when you get it, it’s nice and I’ve been struggling a bit, so it was it was good.”
With 19 Swedes in the 132-player field, the tournament promises a strong local presence.
“It’s really nice being at home – I drove here in just two and a half hours and I’m staying locally,” she said. “It’s been a busy time off the course too, as I just got my own apartment and have been making it feel like home. I’m really enjoying it.”
She continued: “My coaches are here with me this week – we had a bit of practice camp with the Swedish team, so I think the prep has been really good. A good mix of relaxing, practice, and working.”
Despite never having played the course before this week, Folke liked what she saw in the pro-am on Wednesday. “The course is really nice. It’s a good golf course. I haven’t really played here before but it’s a good first impression. There are a lot of undulating greens so it’s definitely going to be a ball-striker’s course this week. Positioning is key, and as always – fairways and greens.”
Commenting on whether it’s a typical Swedish golf course, she said: “I wouldn’t say all of them are this hilly. However it is classic in the way when it comes to the tree lines.”
Folke will have her family and friends cheering her on. “My sister lives just down the road, and it will be the first time she’s come to watch me play. My parents are coming too, along with a few friends. It’s always special to play at home, and I just want to enjoy the week. My family are my biggest fans, so it’s going to be a lot of fun having them out here.”
The 30-year-old will play alongside fellow Swede Louise Rydqvist and France’s Nastasia Nadaud at 2:48pm (local time), in round one on Friday.
