FANALI EYES “MAJOR” SUMMER WITH COMPATRIOTS UNDER HER WING

It’s been a nostalgic start to 2025 for Alessandra Fanali with the Italian reunited with national team duo Anna Zanusso and Alessia Nobilio after their Q-School success.

Having played together for several years during their amateur days, Fanali, still only 25-years-old, has taken the rookies under her wing while performing well on the LET sitting 11th in the Order of Merit through six events.

Continuing to show Zanusso and Nobilio the ropes on and off the course, Fanali is now eyeing two “big goals” as we approach a huge summer of golf.

“I feel like I’ve played really solid so far this year,” the Olympian said, who finished runner-up at the Ford NSW Women’s Open in March. “If I can play well over the next few weeks I can give myself a good chance to play in the Majors this summer. That’s the big goal.

“It’s been nice to have Anna [Zanusso] and Alessia [Nobillio] on Tour. We’ve been travelling together, basically from Australia onwards. Yesterday I told them where to go and where to shop in Seoul. We’re all very excited. It’s really nice and it’s fun, it reminds me of our Italian national team days.”

Fanali is yet to compete in a Major championship but sits well positioned to qualify for The Amundi Evian Championship as one of the top players in the LET season standings.

The top-seven players, not already exempt, from the top-20 of the 2025 Order of Merit will qualify for the fourth Major of the year as of the commitment deadline on June 24. The Italian could also qualify if she wins the Jabra Ladies Open next month – a tournament she finished T4 at in 2023.

Having had two runner-up finishes in three years on the LET, Fanali could also claim a spot at the coveted AIG Women’s Open can she finally go one better and clinch a maiden victory on Tour. But for now, the Olympian is continuing to stay level headed as we approach a crucial stage in the season.

“I’m not trying to expect too much of myself,” Fanali continued. “Obviously I would love to finally get that win, but at this point I appreciate that it’s so hard to win on Tour. So I’m just going to keep trying to play my best.”

As for this week, Fanali, – who played a practice round with Zanusso and Nobilio on Tuesday – will compete in the $2,000,000 Aramco Korea Championship in Seoul. As an avid traveller alongside boyfriend Guilio, it is a tournament she has long be looking forward to.

“I’m really excited to be here,” Fanali explained. “We already did some sightseeing the past few days, we flew in on Friday, so over the weekend we walked around and took bikes to see some new places. It was really fun. So far I’m enjoying it more than last year, because last year I came from South Africa where I couldn’t play because of my back. This year I’m feeling good and I’m playing good.”

The 54-hole Aramco Korea Championship gets underway on Friday morning where Fanali – a captain in the Team competition – is expecting a tricky test for all.

“The course this week [New Korea Country Club] isn’t easy,” she said. “It’s tough to judge the distances out of this grass. You can spin it with the wedges easily but not so much with the irons because the greens are very firm and very fast this week.

“I have been checking the distances a lot with my coach back home. Especially my irons, because I have been hitting them a little longer. Here, with the temperature, we’ve been checking them out again. I’m enjoying the process and focusing on the same goals.”
