DE ROEY IN THE MIX HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND AT THE CHEVRON CHAMPIONSHIP

Manon De Roey

Manon De Roey sits just two shots behind the leader at the midway mark of the 2025 Chevron Championship.

The Belgian star fired an opening round of 68 (-4) which included five birdies and just one dropped shot in the first Major of the year.

“I’m very happy with my round today,” said the Olympian, who was speaking after her first round. “I just wanted to go out there and hit as many fairways as possible because I feel like that’s the key on this course.

“I did that pretty well. It gives you a better chance going for pins, getting closer to the pins. I’m very happy.

“Getting out strong in the beginning is definitely an advantage, especially on the first round. This have given me a lot of confidence for the rest of the week. I’m just going to build on what I did and hopefully, I can roll in some more putts over the next few days.”

On day two at Carlton Woods in Texas, De Roey battled for a round of 71 (-1) which included an eagle at the 13th hole.

Speaking after her second rounds, De Roey said: “That was very exciting. I got off to a slow start, but then I know I can take advantage on the par-5s here, so I was really looking forward to 13.

“I had a really good drive, then I had 225 metres to the front and 247 to the pin. I hit it so good, and it bounced towards the green and then pin high, and I made a long putt.”

However, day two wasn’t without stress for De Roey as she experienced a nosebleed on the golf course.

She added: “I think it’s just with the heat. Going from inside and the cold air conditioning to outside in the heat. I’ve had it a few times on the course in the past.

“I just had a tampon in my bag, so I put it up my nose. That’s the only thing I had. I dealt with the nosebleed, and I felt a bit stressed on my back nine a little bit.

“I missed a few shots here and there. I put myself in really tough spots, short-sided in the bunkers which was not nice. Then I got it back and made birdie on the eighth.”

The three-time LET winner, who won the 2025 Australian Women’s Classic in March, sits in a share of sixth place on the leaderboard just two shots behind China’s Yan Liu, who leads on seven-under.

After a weather delay in the first round, the second round will be completed on Saturday morning in the United States.
