The Caddie Association, membership driven organisation that is open to all caddies, has raised an amazing €6,830 for fellow member Alistair McDonald and his family.
Following the devastating news of Alistair’s wife Ros being diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, Ben Cain, a friend and caddie, led a fundraiser across the Joburg Ladies Open and Investec SA Women’s Open. Players and caddies could opt in to donate €5 per birdie and €10 per eagle across both tournaments.
The money raised isn’t for treatment but to allow for him and his family to hopefully get away together, and create some lasting and special memories with one another.
At the halfway mark, nearly €3,000 was raised following the Joburg Ladies Open. More than 600 birdies and nine eagles were secured across the reduced 54-hole tournament.
“The Caddie Association is truly grateful for the incredible generosity shown over the past couple of weeks in support of Alistair and his family”, said Cain. “The McDonald family will be hugely appreciative of the kindness and support from everyone.”

Alistair was due to start the 2025 season with Ellinor Südow from March onwards, but obviously his plans have changed, and he has had to forgo working with Ellinor and caddying for an indefinite time, to help his wife and children through these tragic circumstances.
