Manon De Roey has had a confidence boost heading into this week’s Aramco Team Series presented by PIF – Shenzhen.
The Belgian star fired a final round of 66 (-5) at last week’s Lacoste Ladies Open de France to finish in outright third place.
De Roey sits second in the Ladies European Tour (LET) Order of Merit and is feeling more confident in her game this week.
“The final round gave me a lot of confidence,” she said. “I wasn’t playing bad all summer, but I didn’t make a lot of putts.
“I didn’t make so many putts on the final day, but I was hitting it close which does give me some confidence in my long game as well. I’m happy that I shot five-under and I gave myself a chance out there, but it wasn’t enough.”
In the strokes gained statistics, the two-time LET winner tops the rankings in the Total Strokes Gained, Total Driving Strokes Gained and Total Putting Strokes Gained categories.
De Roey believes some tweaks in her tournament preparation have been key to maintaining her form across the season.
She explained: “I have been working a little bit on my swing, getting a bit more structure and having a blueprint when I go on tournaments because I don’t see my coach that often because he just moved to Abu Dhabi.
“I’m trying to get a good sense for my swing and when I’m alone on tournaments, at least I can move on, and I know what to work on. I still have contact with him, but it’s just a little bit different.
“I have a few drills I do every week with putting, short game and my long game, so I know what to work on and what my weaknesses are. I do those during the practice rounds. During tournaments, I try not to think too much about technique, I try to go out there and score as well as possible.”
The Aramco Team Series presented by PIF event format sees two competitions happening alongside one another with the 36-hole Team event and 54-hole Individual event.
De Roey has had previous success in the format securing her maiden LET title at the Aramco Team Series – Bangkok in 2022 and the Olympian believes this week will see similar conditions.
She added: “It’s a good course. I can reach a lot of the par-fives, so that’s always a bonus. I’m excited to play, it’s my first time in China. I’m looking forward to it, I’m going to keep going on the things I’ve been working on and what gave me confidence from last week in France.
“It is a bit similar to Bangkok – the heat is the same! I feel like I’m always struggling the first few days in the heat, it gives you some time to adjust. It was the same in Bangkok, the first few days I had a really hard time with the heat and the humidity but during the tournament, I didn’t really think about it anymore. I think it’s going to be the same here, it’s going to be great.”
The Aramco Team Series presented by PIF – Shenzhen takes place on the World Cup Course at Mission Hills Resort from 4-6 October.
