FIVE TALKING POINTS AHEAD OF THE ARAMCO TEAM SERIES – SHENZHEN

Chiara Tamburlini

It is the 27th stop of the Ladies European Tour (LET) season with the Aramco Team Series presented by PIF – Shenzhen.

The World Cup Course at Mission Hills Resort in Shenzhen is hosting the tournament which will see two competitions happening side by side.

Before play gets underway, here are five things to watch out for…

Defending champion in town

China’s Xiyu Lin won the 2023 edition of the Aramco Team Series presented by PIF – Hong Kong which was played at Hong Kong Golf Club this time last year.

The Chinese star won her third LET title defeating Korea’s Jin Young Ko in a playoff, after the Individual tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to a typhoon.

Lin has had a good 2024 thus far with the highlight being a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and she will be hoping to add another title to her collection on home soil this week.

World stars in attendance

Five players in the top 35 of the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings will be teeing it up in this week’s Aramco Team Series – Shenzhen.

World number four Ruoning Yin, who is a major champion, is making her debut in the Series and will be playing alongside France’s Celine Boutier – who won the Sanya Ladies Open in China in 2017.

Olympic bronze medallist and defending champion Xiyu Lin is ranked 20 in the world and is joined in the field by American duo Alison Lee – a two-time winner in this format – and Angel Yin.

Unique Format

As with the first three Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF events of 2024, the format will see both the Team and Individual competitions being played simultaneously.

The Team competition will be played over 36-holes over the first two days with the best two scores counting, while the Individual is a 54-hole stroke play competition with the last round just having the top-60 professionals and ties competing.

There are 84 professionals teeing it up this week and there will be 28 teams contending for the top prize. Each team will consist of three professionals and one amateur with captains decided based upon the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings on Monday 23rd September.

Tamburlini in top form

Switzerland’s Chiara Tamburlini is having an excellent rookie season on the LET after capturing her second LET title last week.

The 24-year-old won the Joburg Ladies Open earlier this year and then defeated Australia’s Kirsten Rudgeley in a playoff last week to secure her second victory this year.

Tamburlini extended her advantage at the top of the Order of Merit and has a 393.98-point lead over Belgium’s Manon De Roey.

Breast Cancer Awareness Highlighted

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the Aramco Team Series – Shenzhen will see an activation take place during the tournament.

The 16th hole, which is the final par-five on the World Cup Course, will be branded in pink for the event with each birdie on that hole contributing 10 mammograms and an eagle contributing 25 mammograms.

Mammograms will be offered out to the Shenzhen community courtesy of Vista-SK and on Sunday 6th October, players are encouraged to wear pink.
