EIGHT LET PLAYERS MAKE IT THROUGH FINAL QUALIFYING

Twelve players booked their place at the 2024 AIG Women’s Open after making it through Final Qualifying at Crail Golfing Society.

A field of nearly 100 players took to the Craighead Course in search of a place at St Andrews (Old Course) on Thursday.

China’s Weiwei Zhang topped qualifying after firing a round of 67 (-5) to book her place at the iconic links golf course.

Eight Ladies European Tour (LET) members followed in Zhang’s footsteps and will now be teeing it up in the final major of the year.

France’s Emma Grechi, England’s Annabell Fuller and South Africa’s Casandra Alexander – who are all LET members – produced a round of 68 (-4) to finish in a tie for second place alongside American Kristen Gillman.

Grechi said: “My game was pretty good. I will see at the end of the day if I am in. I hope so, but I am so happy for my day.”

“I played pretty solid[ly] and didn’t make many mistakes. I only hit one ball into the rough which I just chipped out and that’s all you can do around links courses; find fairways and greens,” said LET rookie Fuller.

Another American will be teeing it as Lauren Hartlage finished in a share of sixth place with LET members Noora Komulainen of Finland, Germany’s Patricia Isabel Schmidt and South Africa’s Lee-Anne Pace.

At the end of play, there were 12 players sat in a tie for 10th place and only three qualifying spots left.

After a playoff, it was England’s Jodi Ewart Shadoff, Northern Ireland’s Stephanie Meadow and Finland’s Ursula Wikstrom who claimed the final qualifying spots.
