MOOSMANN EMBRACING HOME ADVANTAGE AT VP BANK SWISS LADIES OPEN

Elena Moosmann says it would “mean everything” to win the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open as the Ladies European Tour (LET) star tees up at her home course Golfpark Holzhäusern this week.

The 22-year-old finished third here as at amateur in 2021 where she got off to a fantastic start with a round of 65 (-6).

Knowing the course as well as anybody, Moosmann is embracing her home advantage this week as she looks to put on a show in front of friends and family.

“I started playing golf here when I was 10-years-old,” she said. “I live five minutes away in the next little village, Hudenberg. I hope a lot people will come out. My friends and family will be here. I have great memories from 2022, especially the birdie birdie finish.

“There’s probably high expectations on me because I know the course so well. But I’m just looking forward to enjoying it to try and reduce that pressure. Yesterday I had a moment where I felt a little more pressure. So I know I just have to go and enjoy it and whatever happens, happens. I’ll do my best. It would mean everything to me to win at home. That’s the goal. So I’m going to go all in.”

As for her form, Moosmann arrives home sitting 39th in the Order of Merit with her best result coming at the Aramco Team Series – Korea event (Moosmann finished T5). Since then, the Swiss star has has a sporadic couple of months making three cuts and missing two – including at last week’s Tipsport Czech Ladies Open.

“I had my struggles last week with my long game,” she said. “But I’ve sorted it out and I’m pretty confident now. I have a good caddie this week, he’s a member here too so we both know the course inside and out.

“There’s been some ups and downs this year. I’ve had some really good events and then others very bad. A mix, a lot of emotions up and down. I didn’t have that last year on LET Access Series (LETAS) where it was more solid. So there’s been a lot of learning experiences this year. Mentally, it’s different. So I’ve been working on that.”

Moosmann is one of 14 Swiss players teeing up this week. She joins Joburg Ladies Open winner Chiara Tamburlini, Kim Metraux and Tiffany Arafi as the leading four players. With Morgane Metraux and Albane Valenzuela also excelling in recent times on the LPGA, Moosmann is excited to see the progress Swiss golf is making in the women’s game.

“It’s amazing,” she said. “Swiss Golf is doing a lot of great things to support pros in the transfer from amateur golf in the first couple of years. That’s been a big help. We had a practice camp at the beginning of the year – with guys and girls – and I think that shows the push they’re making. It’s great to see the ladies doing so well. It’s great for everybody.

Moosman gets underway at the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open tomorrow afternoon at 12:51 playing alongside England’s Amy Taylor and Wales’ Chloe Williams.
