Linn Grant is making the most of this year’s Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed as she is able to stay in her own home.
The five-time LET winner is from the Helsingborg area and lives close to Vasatorps Golfklubb where the tournament is taking place.
One advantage of being at home is Grant will have lots of support from the crowd including friends and family who are coming to watch.
“It’s at home and I have everyone here, hopefully, and it’s very exciting,” she said. “I love this week, I think it’s so fun to be here, play at home and with this format as well.
“I’m excited to be staying at home this week. I really look forward to showcasing both Tours golf with family and friends. It still feels like I’m in my back garden.
“It’s not very often I get to play at home. To be able to see them walking the fairways when I play, it’s always that extra support which is very nice to have. Regardless of how I play it’s always nice to see some familiar faces when you look around.”
The co-sanctioned event between the DP World Tour and the LET will see 78 men and 78 women playing in the same groups for one prize fund and one trophy.
Grant made history in 2022 becoming the first woman to win on the DP World Tour after securing a nine-shot victory at Halmstad.
The Solheim Cup winner loves playing at home and believes it is important for Swedish golf to come back and play.
“I’m here for myself but I’m also here because I think it’s really important as a Swedish player to come back to Sweden whenever we can to play and bring back golf for everyone who watches it back here,” she explained.
“It’s really fun, it pushes the tournament more. It’s one thing having both men and women on the same venue, but it’s another having really great players.
“It really ups the tournament and makes it more exciting for everyone else that comes out and buys tickets, I hope they’re excited for a good week.”
Vasatorps, which was designed by Arther Hills, will provide a parkland challenge but also has a linksy feel.
Despite missing the cut at last week’s U.S. Women’s Open Presented by Ally, Grant feels she is in a good place and that putting will be key.
She added: “Playing the U.S. Open last week, which was golf-wise in my game not horrendous, but a very different course to this week. I feel I have a lot of energy, but it also feels very light playing now. Last week was a lot of thinking but this week is just enjoying the week and really enjoying being home.
“I think it will come down to the putting, it’s a wide course so I feel like I can hit my driver pretty much everywhere and really feed on distance, but other than that putting! Hitting a lot of greens and making a lot of putts.
“I think I play my best when I enjoy it, but I’m here to play well and I have that win in mind. It would be awesome to hold up the trophy once again.”
