Nine years ago, Madelene Sagström made her professional debut at the Helsingborg Open at Vasatorps Golfklubb.
Fast forward to now and the Solheim Cup star is back at the place where it all started preparing to tee it up at the 2024 Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed.
Sagström made her first appearance in the event in 2023 finishing in a share of 12th place at Ullna Golf Club.
The LPGA Tour winner is looking forward to having a tournament at the place she made her professional debut and where she spends a lot of time practising.
“I’m super excited to be here, I spend a lot of time practicing here normally with my coach,” she said.
“This is where I spend most of my time in Sweden, it’s super nice to be back. It looks so different with all the infrastructure! I’m super excited to be at home and ready to have a good week.
“I didn’t really think about it until I got reminded. It’s almost full circle, it was nine years ago when I played here.
“It’s cool to be back and it was really cool last year to play in my first event in Sweden since then and now being back here, it’s probably even better. I know what I’m in for this week, I know playing with the guys was fun last year so I’m looking forward to it.”
The co-sanctioned event between the DP World Tour and the LET will see 78 men and 78 women playing in the same groups for one prize fund and one trophy.
Sagström will begin her title challenge alongside Solheim Cup teammate Linn Grant and fellow Swede Jesper Svensson at 8.00 am (local time) on Thursday.
Having had a solid season thus far, Sagström – who is 35th in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings – feels good about her game.
“I’m a little bit hurt at the moment from last week,” she continued. “The U.S. Open was so hard, but it was a great week. It was extremely difficult.
“I’m looking forward to bringing some confidence back in the game and I feel good. My season has been pretty good so far, I had a good finish a few weeks ago, so I’m still lingering a little bit on that and bringing confidence from that.”
Even though Sagström is from Uppsala near Stockholm, she is still hoping to have plenty of support from the crowd this week.
She added: “It’s always interesting to see where you stand against that field. You know what you do playing against the girls but playing against the men you have no idea.
“I was really happy with how I played, for me that was really close to my hometown so playing in front of a lot of family and friends was super fun.
“I’m hoping for a lot of fans to come out this week, it might not be too many who grew up with me but there should still be a lot of Swedes out.”
