WALSH SETTLING NICELY INTO ROOKIE YEAR ON LET

Lauren Walsh

Lauren Walsh recorded her best finish yet on the Ladies European Tour (LET) at last week’s Jabra Ladies Open.

The rookie produced rounds of 69-70-70 to end the week at Evian Resort Golf Club with a total of four-under-par and a fourth-place finish.

Having secured back-to-back top-10 finishes on Tour, Walsh believes she is finally getting into the swing of things.

“I had some okay rounds at the start of the year, I probably didn’t pull something together for three or four days in a row,” she said.

“It’s been nice the last two weeks, I feel I’ve done a little better. There’s a lot of learning as a rookie, figuring out the travel and all the additional elements that go into being a professional.

“I have been really enjoying the experience and being a lot closer to home is nice, getting to go home for a day or two here or there. It’s nice to see things coming together.”

After missing her first cut of the year at the Investec South Africa Women’s Open, Walsh did some work with her coach at home.

Over the past three tournaments, the 23-year-old has been seeing improvements in her consistency which led to her best result yet.

She explained: “I struggled in South Africa but had a week at home then and made some changes with my coach which I definitely saw improve in Korea.

“My scoring wasn’t quite there, I played okay, I made the cut but my scoring wasn’t quite there and as the week progressed in Germany, I could see the scoring getting there and I was hitting more frequent quality golf shots, so that was really good.

“I had the U.S. Qualifier which I played nicely and then last week, it was a tough golf course for ball striking so I think I did that pretty well.”

The Irishwoman sits fourth in the Rookie of the Year standings with 383.48 points from the eight events she has played.

Walsh will tee it up in the first round at 8.11 am (local time) alongside 2015 winner Nicole Broch Estrup and last year’s runner-up Ana Peláez Trivino and is looking forward to the week.

She added: “The course looks good, there’s a lot of wind out here which means you have to hit it well. I’m looking forward to the week ahead, there should be some good scores out there.”
