MALIK TAKING IT ONE DAY AT A TIME AT LALLA AICHA Q-SCHOOL

Tvesa Malik

Tvesa Malik won the Pre-Qualifier Asia back in November to secure her place at the Final Stage of Lalla Aicha Q-School.

The Indian player produced rounds of 70-69-70 over three days at Classic Golf and Country Club in her home nation.

Malik won the tournament by three strokes with a total of seven-under-par and the result was slightly unexpected.

“It was good,” she said. “I didn’t go into that week expecting much because I wasn’t play much and I wasn’t playing so good, so I wasn’t sure if I would have played it or not.

“I went in with no expectations and it went well for me. It was a good way to get the momentum to switch.”

The 28-year-old has had one month to work on things since she secured her place at the Final Qualifier in Morocco.

And Malik has played in a couple of tournaments during that time while also assessing which parts of her game needed some work.

She explained: “I think the short game can always get sharper. I also played a couple of events back home in the meantime.

“That was good to understand what needed to be worked on a little bit more and it was quite eye-opening, but just doing the same things and keeping it a little bit more simple.”

The Final Qualifier is a 90-hole stroke-play competition which takes place over two courses – Al Maaden Golf Marrakech and Royal Golf De Marrakech.

Players are split into groups and will alternate courses for the first four rounds, there will then be a cut to the top 65 players and ties followed by the final round being played at Al Maaden.

Malik has been enjoying her time in Morocco but is making sure she doesn’t get ahead of herself this week.

She added: “It’s been nice, the weather has been nice and sunny, and the courses seem nice. I’m excited for the week and I’m trying to play one day at a time and not think ahead. Let’s see where that takes me.

“With Q-School, it can be tricky because it feels like you have one week to prove yourself and it feels like it decides your entire year. I’m aware of that but I think getting ahead of yourself doesn’t help.

“I’m doing whatever I can to put myself in the best position to play the game I feel I’m capable of. I will be taking it one day at a time and one shot at a time and trying not to let everything else affect me too much.”
