BRINGNER HOLDS SLENDER LEAD WITH PLAY SUSPENDED IN THE NETHERLANDS

  • Sofie Bringner leads by one at Big Green Egg Open with round two suspended due to darkness
  • Swede has three holes left to play at Hilversumsche Golf Club
  • Six players hot on her heels including amateur Helen Briem

Sweden’s Sofie Bringner leads by one on eight-under par at the Big Green Egg Open with round two suspended in the Netherlands due to darkness.

Teeing off in the penultimate group on Saturday, the overnight leader still has three holes remaining at Hilversumsche Golf Club after play was delayed this morning because of fog.

Three birdies and one bogey on the back-nine (her front nine) saw the Swede maintain her three shot-lead after several stars reached seven-under par earlier in the day.

But after firing her tee-shot right and turning to a provisional on the par-5 1st, Bringner dropped two shots to return her round one number.

Five pars then steadied the ship for the 26-year-old before the horn sounded at 20:15 local time.

Six players are hot on Bringner’s heels having completed their second rounds in the Netherlands – a sextet on seven-under par which includes Trichat Cheenglab, Chloe Williams, Lydia Hall, Alexandra Forsterling, Sara Kjellker, and rising amateur Helen Briem.

Thailand’s Cheenglab said after a solid 68 (-4): “The ball was kicking everywhere but my recovery shots from the woods were very good today. I still made birdie from some shots in the woods which was good. I have putted very well this week.”

Also in pursuit of a maiden Ladies European Tour (LET) win, and after shooting a 69 (-3), Williams said: “I stuck to the same process, hit it nicely and gave myself plenty of chances. Nothing was really different to yesterday. I just need to sharpen up my wedges and hole some more putts tomorrow.”

While Forsterling bounced back from a triple-bogey on the par-3 8th and carded eight birdies to fire a 68 (-4) in hot conditions.

“It the end it felt very easy I would say,” the German rookie explained. “I kept hitting it super close, making putts, it was just a great feeling.

“I was definitely frustrated after the triple-bogey, but I just tried to stay patient and know I could get one back. And it worked out. My short irons were definitely the best part of my game today.”

Four players round off the top-10 on six-under par. This includes Kirsten Rudgeley, Alice Hewson, and Norwegian duo Renate Grimstad and Dorthea Forbrigd. All four have completed their second rounds.

England’s Hayley Davis sits in solo twelfth on five-under par after firing a sensational 66 (-6) in Hilversum – her best her round on the Ladies European Tour (LET).

The round of the day came from American Gurleen Kaur who fired a 65 (-7) to move to two-under par for the tournament.

Round two will resume on Sunday September 10 at 8:00am local time. After a cut of the top 60 players including ties – a number which currently stands at two-over par – the third round will be a U draw from approximately 9:30 to 11:30 local time.
