Gabriella Cowley is confident a win is just around the corner as she tees up at the Big Green Egg Open two weeks on from her playoff defeat in Northern Ireland.
It was a gutting finish for the Englishwoman at the ISPS Handa World Invitational after a stellar four days of play ended in sudden death defeat to Alexa Pano.
But after a period of reflection and with her game in excellent shape, Cowley is full of confidence that her much-desired maiden Ladies European Tour (LET) win remains within reach.
“Obviously I was upset and gutted, to be honest,” Cowley said on the runner-up finish in Northern Ireland. “But I think for me moving forward I’ve got to use it as a positive and look and that week as a whole rather just the playoff.
“I produced four days of unbelievable stuff. I just need to trust my game and keep doing what I’m doing and I know I’ll be able to win soon. For me it was more about the confidence. Being in that position and performing how I did. I know if I keep doing the right stuff and keep things ticking the win will be there.”
After matching her best career result at Galgorm, Cowley followed things up with another solid display as she placed T40 at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open last week.
“I feel good,” the 27-year-old continued. “Obviously I’ve been playing pretty nicely the past few weeks. I just need to keep doing what I’ve been doing to be honest.”
As for this week in the Netherlands, Cowley believes the heathland features of Hilversumsche Golf Club will suit her eye given its similarities to courses back in England.
“The course is nice, it reminds me of being back home with the heather. It’s really similar to the courses we play back home. It’s a tough course and you’ll have to hit the ball well here. The shots into the green are also tricky.”
While Cowley is also boosted by the support of Ben Cain on the bag – her compatriot and close friend who was initially set to only fill-in as caddie in Northern Ireland.
She explained: “He’s going to be doing the rest of the season for me. Obviously our first week together was the ISPS and we had a great week there. I think with us being such good friends he makes me more relaxed on the course. I feel that we get on well and it’s shown in the golf already.”
Cowley gets underway at the Big Green Egg Open at 14:04 on Friday playing alongside Austria’s Christine Wolf and Welsh player Lydia Hall.
