Linn Grant made history at the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed in 2022 securing a nine-shot victory and becoming the first female winner on the DP World Tour.
At the time the 23-year-old was in her rookie season on the Ladies European Tour (LET) and her victory was one of four she had on Tour last year.
Grant went on to win the 2022 Race to Costa del Sol, LET Rookie of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year titles to cap off a stellar first full season as a professional.
The Swedish star returns to the tournament where she made headlines and is the top-ranked female player in the field this week as she currently sits as number 22 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Having notched her fifth LET title just a few weeks ago at the Jabra Ladies Open, Grant is excited for the week ahead.
“I feel good,” said the Swede. “I just played the course today, the full 18 and it’s a nice place. A tricky course but there are some birdie opportunities out there and I’m really looking forward just to get out and play and see how low I can go.”
The Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed is a co-sanctioned event between the LET and DP World Tour and it sees 78 men and 78 women playing for the same prize fund of US $2 million and one trophy.
Now in its third edition, the tournament has moved north and is being played at the beautiful Ullna Golf Club just north of Stockholm.
It was designed by Sven Tumba in 1981 and renovated in 2013 which was overseen by Jack Nicklaus and Grant expects the course to be a test.
She explained: “I think there are some narrow tee shots out there. The greens are also, well they are Jack Nicklaus greens, so they are a bit slopey. A lot of wedge shots though, so I think it will be a lot of low scores.”
Grant will be starting her title defence in the first round at 13.00 local time alongside fellow Swede Alex Noren and Scotland’s Robert Macintyre.
However, the five-time LET winner knows how tough it is to defend a title and is not putting expectations on herself and instead wants to enjoy the week.
She added: “It feels fun to be defending. I don’t think too much about the expectations, I think they are a bit surreal because it’s not that often you win two times in a row, so I am just going to go out, play and have fun, and see how things end up.”
