FIVE TALKING POINTS AHEAD OF THE JABRA LADIES OPEN

The 2023 Ladies European Tour (LET) season resumes this week as we head to France for the Jabra Ladies Open.

The beautiful Evian Resort Golf Club in Évian-les-Bains will be hosting the event for a fifth time on the LET with 132 players from 31 nations vying for the trophy.

Before the tournament gets underway, here are a few talking points to look out for…

Koivisto defending her title

It was a dream week for Tiia Koivisto in 2022 as the Finnish star won her maiden LET title at the world-famous Evian Resort Golf Club.

After graduating from the LET Access Series, Koivisto defeated Australia’s Whitney Hillier in a dramatic playoff to lift the trophy and become the latest member of the LET winners’ circle.

As she defends her title this week, Koivisto will be hoping for a nostalgic return to form alongside other former winners Annabel Dimmock and Pia Babnik.

Winning Momentum

While we may have had a short hiatus over the past two months on the LET, that didn’t stop a host of stars teeing up on domestic tours and finding success to give them winning momentum heading into the restart.

On the Rose Ladies Series, the English trio of Gabs Cowley, Lily May Humphreys, and Liz Young all tasted success on home soil alongside Scotland’s Laura Beveridge.

Down in South Africa, Stacy Lee Bregman broke a five-year winning drought to claim her sixth Sunshine Ladies Tour title in the inaugural Standard Bank Ladies Open.

In Spain, three-time LET winner Nuria Iturrioz was victorious at the Santander Golf Tour Cádiz doubles tournament, while on LETAS, this week’s invitee Louise Uma Landgraf became the youngest ever winner on a women’s golf tour at just 14 years, 2 months and 18 days.

Peláez on the charge

Talking of form, few players arrive in France as confident as Spain’s Ana Peláez Trivino. With two runner-up finishes to her name already in 2023, the 25-year-old will be looking to close the gap once again on India’s Aditi Ashok in the Race to Costa del Sol standings.

On top of that, Peláez will be eager to pull closer to Sweden’s Maja Stark in the LET Solheim Cup Points List as she eyes a dream space in the European squad in her hometown.

Another successful week for the Spaniard could see her steer closer to the top in both standings with Ashok and Stark both absent in France.

Awesome amateurs

Several stars of the future will be taking to Evian’s picturesque fairways overlooking Lake Geneva this week with emerging amateurs aplenty.

Leading the list of invitees and hoping to make their mark are Belgium’s Savannah De Bock, the PING Junior Solheim Cup player who starred for Team Europe in 2021 and is well on her way to making the squad again in 2023.

All eyes will also be on home hero Landgraf, the before-mentioned teenage talent who entered the history books at the Terre Blanche Ladies Open last month.

Alongside the talented pair is America’s Chloe Kovelesky, the 16-year-old prodigy who last year was the youngest competitor at the US Women’s Open Championship.

Major stakes

Finally, there is more than just the Jabra Ladies Open trophy at stake this week with the winner also receiving automatic qualification into the Amundi Evian Championship – Continental Europe’s only major which takes place at the end of July at the very same venue.
