GARCIA HOPING FOR ANOTHER TEAM VICTORY AT ARAMCO TEAM SERIES – SOTOGRANDE

Nicole Garcia

Back in June, Team Garcia tasted victory at the 2022 edition of the Aramco Team Series – London after winning in a playoff on the final day.

It was captain Nicole Garcia who took the responsibility in the playoff against Team Wikstrom and the South African ended up clinching victory with teammates Madelene Stavnar, Kelly Whaley and amateur Mia Baker by her side.

La Reserva Club de Sotogrande hosts this week’s Aramco Team Series – Sotogrande and Garcia is hoping for another successful week in this format.

“Every week you go into you’re hoping it’s going to be a good week. I think I’ve got a really good team,” she said. “My pick Karolin Lampert has a good ball flight for wind, and she was my captain at this same tournament last year.

“At the same time, it was a strategic pick because she’s a really good player in the wind and I have a lot of fun with her – we’re good friends. I’ve got a strong team. Hopefully we have a good week; if not I’m still going to have a good time.”

Lampert had a very strong performance at this tournament in 2021 finishing third in the Individual event and in sixth with the Team.

The third member of Team Garcia is Finland’s Krista Bakker, who has a phenomenal record in the Aramco Team Series events.

The Finn was part of the winning Team Pedersen in Jeddah last November, as well as in Bangkok as part of Team Hillier – plus she also finished third as part of Team Hillier in London.

And Garcia can’t wait to get started in the competition and hopes that the amateur will enjoy playing alongside her.

“I haven’t played with Krista in a long time,” she continued. “But I think she’s been having a good season and she’s had a good run with the Team events.

“There’s a fourth member of the team – the amateur. I think that does have a lot to do with it. The girls in the field all have very similar abilities, they can all make a lot of birdies, so it really comes down a lot to the amateur too, which is quite nice.

“I’ve been really lucky with my amateurs. It gives them a feel of being part of a professional tournament – almost like a real feel of being part of something a bit bigger. I enjoy that part of it.”
