Olafia Kristinsdottir of Iceland is playing in the Jabra Ladies Open presented by Bitstamp this week, which is her first event in 16 months following the arrival of her first child last June.
The 29-year-old from Reykjavik, who graduated from Wake Forest University in 2014 with a degree in Economics and was the first Icelandic player to participate on the LPGA, is in Evian-les-Bains with her partner, Thomas, who is also her caddie and their 10-month-old son, Maron Atlas Thomasson.
She said: “It feels really good to be back. I have a lot of excited and happy emotions. It’s been strange with Covid and being pregnant and I couldn’t practise much, as I spent a lot of time with Maron. I really didn’t touch a club for a long time. I got Covid twice, so I had to take it easy and I haven’t spent much time in the gym.
“I started practising one hour a week and then three times a week and now six times a week and longer hours. It was a bit of a shock in the beginning. You know how to swing the club but you don’t have the fine touch and I started off hitting it two clubs shorter than usual. Now I’m at one club shorter, so I have to be smart about remembering that this week.
“I really have no expectations and I just hope to get better and better. I am just playing on Career Money status and I was always bouncing in and out of this event’s field. I’m currently in the field for Belgium, and I hope to get into some more events.
“It’s definitely a lot of work. You have a busy day at work and come home and take care of him and then maybe not the full night’s sleep but it is totally worth it. A lot of kisses and cuddles,” she said.
