STRONG LINEUP IN STORE FOR INVESTEC SOUTH AFRICAN WOMEN’S OPEN

This week sees the Ladies European Tour make the trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town for the second part of the South African double-header, as 132 players compete for the Investec South African Women’s Open title.

Steenberg Golf Club will play host to the four day tournament, marking a change of location from the previous four tournaments held at the nearby Westlake Golf Club.

With a purse of €300,000, this week’s event sees the biggest prize money for any  women’s golf event in South Africa, with the co-sanctioned event with the Sunshine Ladies Tour being played over 72 holes from Wednesday to Saturday.

There will be plenty of South African talent on show once again in Cape Town, with reigning champion Lee-Anne Pace looking to claim the title for a fifth time in her hometown.

Cape Town native Pace is among five former winners in the field this week, with 2020 victor Alice Hewson looking to excel once again, as well as 2019 champion Diksha Dagar.

Marianne Skarpnord claimed success at Southbroom Golf Club in 2013 to earn the third of her five LET titles, while Tandi McCallum took the spoils in the Sunshine Ladies Tour event back in 2009.

Last week’s winner Linn Grant will be looking to keep up her early season form with another strong performance this week, and is on the search for her fourth victory in 2022 already, having claimed a further two successes on the Sunshine Ladies Tour in February.

Leonie Harm returns to South Africa this week, and will be looking for a repeat of her strong performance last time she was in the country, as she missed out to Pace by a single shot to claim a career-best second-place finish, while Nicole Garcia and Karolin Lampert finished T3, with both in the field once again this week.

After claiming the best finish of her career of second at the Joburg Ladies Open, Kim Metraux will be eager to perform one again this week, while Maria Hernandez will be itching to build on her T3 finish at Modderfontein Golf Club.

Three former Solheim Cup players are also among the field, with Florentyna Parker (2017), Linda Wessberg (2007) and Becky Brewerton (2007 & 2009) the trio that have all represented Europe in the past.

There will be a number of South African players looking to catch the eye in their homeland, with Stacy Lee Bregman eying up a second top ten finish in as many weeks, while Lejan Lewthwaite and Casandra Alexander will also be looking to perform well.
