The seventh event of the 2021 Ladies European Tour (LET) schedule is the Aramco Team Series – London, which takes place at Centurion Club.
Following the success of the 2020 edition of The Saudi Ladies Team International, the team and individual format return this week.
Here are three things to watch out for…
Innovative Format
This week sees an innovative format come to life with 36 teams playing, and each team consists of three professionals and one amateur.
It is a ‘two-from-four’ format which sees the best two scores on each hole taken forward for the team competition; while each professional will also complete every hole and the score will be used for the individual competition.
As a result of the format, it will mean that the amateur will contribute to the result of the game and could have the chance of holing the winning putt.
The Draft
An important and unique element of the Aramco Team Series – London is the fact that there will be a draft to choose the teams for the tournament.
The 36 team captains for the tournament have been chosen based upon the official Rolex World Rankings as of Monday 5th July 2021. In a random order, the 36 captains will select the first player to join their team.
From the remaining field, another professional will be assigned to each team based on a random pick. While before tee off on Thursday, each team will be randomly assigned an amateur to complete the line up.
Star-studded Field
The 2021 Race to Costa del Sol champion Emily Kristine Pedersen leads the field this week alongside other Order of Merit winners: 2010 champion Lee-Anne Pace, 2017 and 2018 champion Georgia Hall, 2014 champion Charley Hull and 2016 champion Beth Allen.
Trish Johnson, who won the Order of Merit in 1990, will be teeing it up this week as will seven-time Order of Merit winner Laura Davies, who has 48 LET victories. They will be joined by European Solheim Cup captain Catriona Matthew.
European Solheim Cup stalwart and Major winner Anna Nordqvist is joined by 2019 Solheim Cup star Anne Van Dam, Minjee Lee, who won the 2020 Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic, and US Solheim Cup star and Major winner Lexi Thompson.
There are also plenty of this year’s winners on the LET in the field with Lucie Malchirand (2021 Ladies Italian Open), Atthaya Thitikul (2021 Tipsport Czech Ladies Open), Stephanie Kyriacou (2021 Big Green Egg Open) and Alice Hewson, who finished third at the Scandinavian Mixed.
