WHAT IS THE RACE TO COSTA DEL SOL?

The LET Order of Merit rewards the achievements of the players, recognising the hard work, grit and determination that it takes to achieve long-term goals.

Last season, Chiara Tamburlini became the first Swiss winner of the LET Order of Merit and also the seventh player in LET history to win the Order of Merit and Rookie of the Year titles in the same season. The Swiss star won the title with 2,718.44 points from 24 events beating Belgium’s Manon De Roey by over 500 points.

Chiara Tamburlini – “It’s such an amazing feeling to have won the Order of Merit! I can’t believe all my hard work has paid off, it’s a huge accomplishment. Coming into the year, I set myself the goal of Rookie of the Year but to have also shown my consistency and won the Order of Merit is beyond what I thought I was capable of at the start of the season.”

In 2023, it was Trichat Cheenglab who clinched the Order of Merit title in her first year on the LET, also becoming the sixth player in LET history to win the Rookie of the Year award in the same season. The Thai player accumulated 1,966.52 points from 24 events and finished 90.64 points ahead of Céline Boutier.

Trichat Cheenglab – “I was very excited since the start of the final tournament,” she said. “I kept watching the live scores to see what was happening, but now I feel more relieved!”

In 2022, rising star Linn Grant took the title in her first year on the LET. It all came down to the final event and the Swedish rookie finished third at the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España to beat her friend and rival Maja Stark to the crown with a winning margin of 209.77 points.

Linn Grant – “I’m very relieved to have beaten Maja! I’m very happy to win the Race to Costa del Sol title, and especially to be able to have played well at the season finale in Spain and win it in the Costa del Sol region.”

In 2021, Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul had a sensational first full season on the LET winning the 2021 title by 1,638.07 points ahead of Slovenia’s Pia Babnik. The teenager only finished outside the top six in Individual events on three occasions and in the process became the youngest winner of the accolade.

Jeeno Thitikul – “It was a pleasure to play in the season-ending event in the Costa del Sol region as the 2021 Race to Costa del Sol champion! It means the world to me. It has been a rollercoaster year and I am honoured to have won this title.”

Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen capped an impressive 2020 season with a record-breaking victory at the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España to seal the inaugural 2020 Race to Costa del Sol crown by a huge 834-point margin and finishing the year with more than triple the points of her nearest challenger Julia Engstrom in second place.

Emily Kristine Pedersen – “I can’t believe I’ve won the Race to Costa del Sol, it’s always been a dream of mine and I am so happy to not only be playing well this year but to win a few trophies too. The last few months have been amazing.”
