Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen continues to lead the LET Break Par Challenge Powered by Golf Saudi with an impressive 151 points after the OMEGA Dubai Moonlight Classic last week.
With only three tournaments to play on the 2020 schedule, the €5,000 first-place prize for charity is all to play for despite the 24-year-old dominance in almost all scoring categories. The current Race to Costa del Sol leader is taking the LET by storm this year and is not content with capturing her first LET in five years at the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open earlier in the summer.
The fiery Dane has not only made more birdies (106) than any other player but also more eagles (nine), with Scotland’s Kylie Henry her nearest competitor in the latter with five.
“It is really fun to have a challenge like this going on in the background of tournament golf. I love trying to make lots of birdies and be aggressive out on the course, so it is amazing for me to be able to make change and potentially donate to charity as a result of playing good golf.”
Spectacular golf is a must if anyone is to catch her and Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall managed just that in Dubai – achieving one of the rarest golfing feats with a ‘slam dunk’ hole-in-one in the first round of the 2020 OMEGA Dubai Moonlight Classic.
Unfortunately, Hedwall was only making her third appearance of the season so trails on cumulative total but her 20 points tally for the week was only bettered by one player, Alison Muirhead.
The Dubai-based Scot fired two eagles and 15 birdies to collect 25 points and close in on the top-ten while Germany’s Laura Fuenfstueck is a new entry in the top-ten after adding 16 birdies to her tally in Dubai en route to a career-high finish of T3 – the most of any player.
The 25-year-old former German national champion is the only player in the top-ten not to have made an eagle in 2020 while the rest of the top three remain the same as last week with Belgium’s Manon De Roey occupying second place and Sweden’s Julia Engstrom sitting in third.
Scotland’s Kylie Henry made the biggest move of the week, jumping from fifth to fourth, courtesy of her fifth eagle of the season and a remarkable eight birdies in the final round on her way to a course-record 63 (-8).
Sweden’s Julia Engstrom still holds the record for most birdies at an event, firing an impressive 24 at the Women’s New South Wales Open earlier in the season.
