LET players took part in a second junior golf webinar on Wednesday, in partnership with the Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI) and the DLF Golf and Country Club’s Academy.
Approximately 55 girls aged between 12 and 18 years old from the cities of Delhi, Gurgaon, Vishakapatnam, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore and Lucknow were invited to a one-hour virtual workshop that involved LET players Tvesa Malik from India and Maha Haddioui from Morocco. After an introduction from the WGAI and the LET, Tvesa and Maha shared their personal experiences and advice, including how they have practised during lockdown and kept their focus in order to raise their game when they return to LET tournament competition next week. The juniors were also given practice drill techniques.
Tvesa (pictured above) said afterwards: “It was a great session and it was interesting to hear a fellow pro’s perspective as well. I hope that the girls take something away from this and can use this time period positively.”
Ms Champika Sayal, Secretary General, Women’s Golf Association of India, commented: “The LET-WGAI webisodes are very special. These webisodes are helping junior golfers in India to adjust to new parameters and understanding from within their home environment.”
Karan Bindra, Director of Instruction at the DLF Golf Academy, said: “It was great to host another webisode from the DLF Golf Academy, for junior girls from across the country. The WGAI-LET webisodes are unique in many ways, one of them being how upcoming juniors can interact with players they look up to, via an online medium. It is opening up a whole new world of easy access for the juniors, who otherwise may not have had a chance visit golf tournaments.”
The LET and WGAI’s junior development camps, held during the Hero Women’s Indian Open at DLF Golf and Country Club for the past three years, have helped to support the growth and development of the sport in line with The R&A’s Women in Golf Charter. The LET is now looking at new ways to #RaiseOurGame by inspiring more women and girls to pursue their passion and realise their potential through the game of golf.
